Student Ambassadors
The College of Mines and Earth Sciences (CMES) Ambassadors are the Student Representatives of the University of Utah’s College of Mines and Earth Sciences. Our goal is to connect people with the College of Mines and Earth Sciences. We share our experiences as students with prospective students and their families, industry partners, alumni, and the community. We engage our current students through academic and social activities, we collaborate with student organizations, and we build citizenship within our College. We hope to inspire others to see the amazing opportunities in the College of Mines and Earth Sciences.
CMES Ambassadors should be well-rounded individuals with a love for the College of Mines and Earth Sciences and the University of Utah!

I chose the U because it has an established and well-recognized Atmospheric Sciences program. I also chose the U because of its amazing Game Day experiences for every sport and its great location close to both the city and the incredible mountains.
With an Atmospheric Sciences degree, I hope to be able to further society’s ability to prepare for, forecast, and communicate impacts of major weather and climate events to save lives, property, economic and environmental interests. I am considering working as either a broadcast meteorologist or as a private sector meteorologist.
I am a huge sports fanatic. I love to watch, attend, and participate in almost every sport, but my favorite is definitely volleyball, which I play multiple days a week. I am a faithful Jazz fan, Rockies fan, and of course, Utes fan.

I chose the University of Utah because of the available opportunities that span a diverse range of departments and subjects. I finally decided to study the Earth Sciences because it encompasses a multitude of subjects - such as physics, chemistry, math - and applies them to understand Earth’s natural processes and how our existence affects those processes.
I hope to use my degree to help preserve the rock we call home.
My favorite things to do are hiking and rock climbing with good friends!

I came to the U because it was the most affordable option for an excellent education and the environment of the state is beautiful! I'm majoring in Geophysics because I love the Earth and I love math. Geophysics is a super sweet combo of the two.
I'll be trying to do something beneficial for our planet with this degree.
I like to hike, climb, and dance. I could watch, talk about, or quote Spongebob 24/7.

Minor: Environmental Sustainability
I chose the University of Utah because it offers wonderful opportunities for students to learn and develop their skills. I am majoring in Environmental Geoscience because I love learning about The Pale Blue Dot, and ways I can help as an individual in regards to Environmental Sustainability. I plan on using my experience and knowledge gained at the U to help with the spread of education and awareness of Environmental Science and a more sustainable future.
I love nature and animals so being outside is my favorite activity, however I do love spending some time playing video games. A few fun facts about me: I was in a bagpipe band in high school, I have lived in Peru and a little island in the Caribbean called St. Eustatius, and I speak fluent Spanish.

The College of Mines and Earth Science caught my attention while deciding my major. I’ve always been interested in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences. I collected rocks growing up and loved watching science documentaries. I decided to take the introduction class for both Geology and Metallurgical Engineering my first semester at the U, both taught me about fascinating aspects of the fields. I decided to study Metallurgy after learning about the properties of metals, how they are extracted, and utilized to build society. During the spring semester of my sophomore year I started working for a lab in the department, some students start doing lab work as soon as their freshmen year. I analyzed additive manufactured high strength alloys, Ti64 and Inconel 718, for a company developing additive manufacturing for aerospace applications. Now, I am working in a lab that is developing titanium dioxide nanotubes for diagnosing Tuberculosis in rural regions heavily affected by the disease. The College of Mines and Earth Sciences has an interactive environment that keeps me fascinated with my study and make me want to participate in collage events. All the people I interact with daily remind me why I love this college and the work they do.

I have always loved math and had an interest in sciences. I heard about Mining Engineering program from a coworker of my dad’s and looked into the program. It sounded like something I would enjoy and I have loved my first year as a mining engineer! Upon graduation I hope to land a job in the mining industry and to be able to give back to the community through the work I would be doing. A few of my hobbies include playing soccer, reading, taking naps, and spending time with friends and family.
