Establishing an Ethic of Sampling for Future Generations of Geoscientists
Growing concerns about the ethics of geologic sampling are relevant to teaching, research,
and our geoheritage (Chan and Mogk, 2022). A recent paper featured in this week’s
Geological Society of America (GSA) examines the culture and attitudes on ethics in
sample collection and archiving, highlighting the need to develop standards and guidelines
within the geoscience community. Professional societies can play a vital role by providing
clear guidelines for practice and resources that can be incorporated into geoscientific
training. #EthicsInGeology #GeoscienceStandards
